GASLIGHTS AND STEAM ENGINES TOUR

The trip begins in the beautiful gaslit village of Wyoming, accessible on Route 19 from Exit 47 on Interstate 90. This charming village has over 70 houses on the National Historic Register and is home to several unique boutiques, including the famous Gaslight Christmas Shoppe, a cafe, and the Davis Country Inn. A mile up the hill on East Bethany Road is the famous Hillside Inn, a full-service colonial inn with spacious rooms and grounds. Its gracious past incorporates the Women's Rights Movement and famous artists.

After you've spent some time in Wyoming, drive south on Route 19 to The New Farm. Open Friday through Sunday April - Christmas, this farm and craft market offers fresh vegetables, delectable foods and baked goods, crafts, unique gifts, demonstrations, special events, and entertainment.

Continue through Warsaw, noting the stately homes built by the salt barons at the turn of the century, as well as the monument district located near the county courthouse. Turn right on Route 20A past elegant mansions and up Warsaw's west hill to Hermitage Road. Turn left and continue to Wolcott Farms where public horseback riding on scenic trails is available (snowmobile rentals in winter). Afterward, head south to Wethersfield Road and head west past the Windmill Farm. Continue west to Route 98 south.

This road will take you into the Village of Arcade where you can take an afternoon excursion on the historic Arcade and Attica Steam Railroad. This 11/2 hour train trip takes you along a scenic stretch of track through the countryside and turns around at the old Currier's train station. A ride in the vintage passenger car or in the optional open gondola car gets you even closer to nature on one of the few operating steam passenger trains in the country.

Out of Arcade, head north on Route 98, continuing north on 77 to 20A and turn right. For golfers, a stop at Byrncliff Resort and Conference Center near Varysburg offers one of the most challenging and scenic courses available in the region.

Stop at some of the roadside stands for delicious, homegrown fresh produce on your way to dinner.
